Overview
The SICK G2S photoelectric sensor is a slim-type photoelectric sensor with a compact design, intended for automation applications with limited installation space. With a housing width of only 7.7 mm, the G2S integrates Background Suppression (BGS) technology and PinPoint LED (640 nm), allowing precise detection of objects with different colors or reflectivity. Sensing range up to 120 mm (models with potentiometer), switching frequency of 800 Hz, and IP67 protection rating.
The G2S is suitable for packaging machines, conveyors, pick & place robots, CNC machine doors, and compact logistics systems that require small yet highly stable sensors.
Technical Overview
The SICK G2S is the Slim version of the G2 series, featuring a rectangular ABS plastic housing with dimensions of 7.7 × 21.8 × 13.5 mm or 7.7 × 27.5 × 13.5 mm depending on the model. Unlike the flat G2F variant, the G2S is optimized for installation in narrow vertical slots and supports a longer sensing range of up to 120 mm with potentiometer adjustment.
The sensor operates on the photoelectric proximity principle with Background Suppression (BGS), detecting only objects within the set range and eliminating the influence of the background behind them. The PinPoint LED technology creates a focused light spot (Ø 3.5 mm at 50 mm), supporting the detection of small objects and objects with low reflectivity (including jet black objects).
Outputs support NPN or PNP, with Light-ON/Dark-ON modes. Flexible connections: 2 m PVC cable (3-wire) or M8 3-pin pigtail connector.
